El Instituto de Cultura of the Municipio de Querétaro often posts giant images on the fences around the Alameda de Hidalgo, the largest park in the Historic Center of the City. When we arrived this year, the exhibit on view was titled “Danzantes de la Luz”, consisting of photos of the Chichemeca Concheros, native dancers representing a proud local heritage and in recognition of the 480 years since the founding of Querétaro. The introduction to the exhibit, by Juan Carlos Romo y López Guerrero, explains that these “Dancers of Light” embody the treasured tradition of the merger of the two cultures (indigenous and Iberian) in the absence of violence, “inspiring us to dance among the colors of the rainbow.” We have seen the dancers many times, in various venues around Querétaro, and always find them inspiring. Our photos of the Concheros are posted elsewhere on this site (including Concheros at La Cruz and Primavera - Celebrating the Spring Equinox). These photos were created by expert Mexican photographers; we share them here as we delighted in viewing them, displayed on the fences of the Alameda:
