Each year, Granada is host for the International Festival of Poetry. This event goes on all week, with hundreds of poets attending from all over the world. A particular poet is honored, there are many recognitions and awards, and all the poets get to read some of their poetry to enthusiastic audiences. There are also performances of music and dance, and of course there are parades. One highlight this year was a parade with poets reading at each street corner, to "bury pessimism". The theme was Poesia es la Esperanza - and I have a T-shirt emblazoned "Viva la Poesia". Another highlight was an astounding marathon performance by the National Ballet Folklorico.
