Don and Lois Porter

Horcón is a little fishing town a couple of hours (by bus) up the coast from Valparaiso. We visited there on a summer day that started out cloudy and cool. We arrived early, when the fishing boats were mostly in, but some were still coming and going. A couple of guys have horses on the beach at the caleta to pull the boats out of the water up high on the beach, and also to pull them down into the water: a very practical and attractive system. After watching the fishermen hawking their catch for a while, we walked up a headland and out to a cliff over the ocean a couple of miles south of the village.
