Elderhostel Alaska Whales & Eagles

Haines is home to the Alaska Bald Eagle Festival. The first photo was taken from our Skagway Air 4-passenger single engine plane as we neared Haines. We immediately boarded another bus to the Chilkat Eagle Preserve, where we saw many hundreds of eagles, in the trees and on the flats of the Chilkat River. Next day, we had the pleasure of hearing local stories told by author Heather Lende. Then at the Eagle Foundation, we saw several demonstrations of live eagles (bald and golden), and owls.
